Plutarch, On Isis and Osiris

Picture
The aim of this book is to make Plutarch's On Isis and Osiris accessible to intermediate students of Ancient Greek. The running vocabulary and grammatical commentary are meant to provide everything necessary to understand each page, so that readers can progress through the text, improving their knowledge of Greek while enjoying an example of the wide-ranging interests of one of antiquity's most prolific writers. Although Plutarch is best known for his many biographical works, he also wrote many essays on philosophy, ethics, politics, religion, and education, collectively known as the Moralia. Among these are a number of essays that reflect on the relationship of philosophy and religion, of which On Isis and Osiris is the most famous and most intriguing.
